Haushaltshilfe
What to Expect
Insurance covered postpartum support for new parents.
Becoming a parent is a deeply transformative experience. With the right support, this transition can feel more grounded, supported, and positive. Germany’s healthcare system offers valuable resources, and by meeting the eligibility criteria, families can access care that supports both physical recovery and emotional well-being.
You may come across the following terms:
Mütterpflege (postpartum doula support)
Mütterpflege refers to specialized postpartum care. Similar to a postpartum doula, this support includes trained expertise in areas such as nourishing meal preparation, newborn care, maternal recovery, babywearing, infant feeding, and holistic family support. Providers are often trained in CPR and early infant development, offering both practical and emotional care during the postpartum period.
Haushaltshilfe (household help)
Haushaltshilfe focuses on practical, day-to-day support in the home - such as basic tidying, grocery shopping, and errands. While large agencies often provide this service, the support can vary, and caregivers may not always have experience with newborns or postpartum recovery. Families may also see different helpers on different days.
At Care Haus, we provide support under the Haushaltshilfe category for insurance purposes. However, our care goes far beyond basic household tasks. With extensive postpartum training and experience, we offer consistent, knowledgeable support - caring not just for your home, but for your whole family during this important time. In Germany this type of work is often referred to as Mütterpflege.

How It Works
-
Ask your health insurance for the form “Antrag auf Haushaltshilfe”.
-
Check with your gynecologist or regular doctor whether they would be inclined to support your application for household help. If they aren’t, find a doctor who is.
-
Think about what services you would like and find your household help provider.
-
Get your doctor to fill in the form, provide the details of the service provider you have chosen and send it to the health insurance.
The health insurance will decide whether they approve your application, change it (reduce the number of hours e.g.) or refuse it
-
Once the application has been approved, the provider can start working with you.
Our doulas will then invoice the health insurance directly.
